Creating a thread with CAP
A new type of lesson structure? Yes, it's a CAP type of lesson for supporting displaced learners and teachers, not only from Ukraine.
It is about a webinar from the "Supporting displaced learners and teachers from Ukraine" Conference. Held by Matthew Ellman on the 21st of April 2022. You may find it on youtube.
Content, Analyses, and Practice a simple technique. I have followed these steps without a coursebook.
Grammar and vocabulary are developing skills such as reading, writing, speaking, and listening, with limited or no other resources.
You can use anything you have at hand: pictures, text, facts generating situations using scaffolding technique with a photo. Photo of a black building, bombarded of which remained only a scheme, facts and materials of the tragedy in Ukraine.
Asking SS about what they have learned from previous lessons is thus a short revision in creating a thread between past and present times. Then grammar: modal should be present in various sentences, a way of teaching grammar through gap-fill or creating new sentences. #katharsis has been present again as I have felt pain and sorrow for Ukraine. Then five words, if vocabulary, not grammar.
A prequel from my diary to Matthew's diary presented at the end of his lesson: I remember one of my first Celta lessons at IH Budapest, with Donna Markowich as a trainer, mainly her way of presenting "should", should have, shouldn't in sentences for teaching us pronunciation with back chain technique.
Then put students to talk about a photo of a demonstration regarding fishing placed in South America, an attempt to put students to translate or dictate a few sentences. Various techniques and methods to put students learn with poor materials.
Finally, the diary with different choices to express students' voices and practice what they have learned.
You may find it on youtube.
